The head of the Spanish horse is distinctive. It should never resemble an Arab, Throughbred, or Draft. The profile should be slightly convex to straight with medium to long length of nose.
The Head: The head of the Spanish horse is distinctive. It is of medium length with 1/3 of the length being at the eye level and above, and 2/3’s below the eye. It is a convext to sometimes straight profile, that mimics the over all frame and silowette of the horse. The head is set high on the neck with a clean, normal width, junction at the poll. Heads that look like, turoughbred, arab or draft in profile or shape are not correct for the breed. When looking at the profile should you lay a string from the forlock to the nose, there should be no empty space between the string and the horses nasal profile. Humps, knots, and divots may be exceptable in small degrees but are not optimal

Ears: The ears are expressive, forward facing and quick to pivot. The length of the ears should match the length of the profile, and measure 1/3 of the over all head length. The length from the base to the tip of the ear, is the same length as from the base of the ear to the side most point of the eye. Ears of the mares may be on the longer side without being distracting to the over all conformation of the horse. Horses with ears too small or pointed towards each other (as in arabs) are considered in correct for the breed. Ears that are too wide or resemble rabbit ears are incorrect for the breed type.

Eyes: The eyes are well placed and expresive, and almond shaped. When looking at the profile you should not be able to see the other eye from the side. (the ocular ridge should be hidden by the profile). Horses with eyes placed to much on the side of their heads will have an “alien” look to them, this is considered incorrect for the breed. Horses with round eyes, eyes with excess white around them, or excessive pink sclara showing, while excedptable is not ideal.
