The Conformation of the Spanish Horse
Below is a comprehensive guide to the ideal conformation of the Spanish horse, with examples of correct and incorrect morphology. In addition we will look into what the conformational aspects of the horse translates to in the natural movement, and the causes and effects that good and bad conformation can contribute to.
The Head
A distinctive head, medium to long in length with a straight to convex profile, with expressive eyes, and ears. In this section we will look into the correct profile, shape and length of the head, ears, eyes, nose, lips, chin, jaw, and over all appearance. With examples of correct and incorrect conformation.
The Neck
Well placed, of balanced length to the overall conformation of the horse. longer on the topside, that ties in above the point of the shoulder. Distinctive to the breed with larger necks with more of a crest in males, and a more feminine line in females. In this section we will look at correct and incorrect neck structures and the common flaws that are seen in this breed.
The shoulder and wither
Mobile and balances with the over all conformation of the horse. Agile and open shoulder that is able to lift the forelimb above level. Medium to low wither that ideally tops at the 4th vertebra. In this section we will look at the ideal angles and length of the shoulder and how that translates to the movement of the horse, and examples of correct and incorrect withers.
The Back and Loin
Solid, strong, and well muscled, short backed with a proportionally equal length in the loin. Here we will look at the proper measurements and proportions of the back and loin. How these two body areas translate to movement and overall conformation in the Spanish horse.
The hip and croup
Well rounded and set low on the loin. A low tail set, and a hip angle and length that matches the overall conformation of the horse. Here we will look into hip angles, overall conformation of the Croup, proper tail set, and how all of these translate to the overall conformation and movement of the Spanish Horse.
The front and hind legs
And although some utilities actually deliver physical goods — like water utilities which actually deliver water — utilities are usually treated as services.
The over all Conformation and Harmony
In this section we will look into the correct profile, shape and length of the head, ears, eyes, nose, lips, chin, jaw, and over all appearance. With examples of correct and incorrect conformation.
